The city of Izborsk is a stone fortress on Zheravie Hill, erected by the Pskov lander Sheloga in the XIV century. Enemy detachments came here, invariably there were beats and walked away from these walls "with much shame and shame."

PECHORAS

This is where the Russian land ends. Or it starts to look.

Here, on the border, once with the Livonian Order, and now with the European Union, an Orthodox monastery has been standing for more than 5 years. The Assumption Pskov-Pechersk Monastery was a place of obligatory pilgrimage for all the great princes, kings and their families.

Pechora is a place of prayerful feat and military valor. In the XIV century the monastery turned into a mighty fortress. The smell of powder and smoke was often mixed with the aroma of incense. The events that took place here are so bizarrely intertwined with legends that it is difficult to separate one from the other.

The most mysterious place in the monastery is the caves in which monks are buried since the foundation of the monastery.

Nearby caves, where the relics of the Pskov-Pechersk monks are located, are open for free inspection.
