Excursion to the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery and Izborsk

We will visit one of the most famous monasteries in Russia - the Holy Dormition Pskov-Pechersk Monastery. You will learn about how it was founded in the XV century and gradually turned into one of the largest centers of spiritual life and at the same time a powerful military border fortress. Hear the story of the underground caves, about the humble and wise elders who lived in the monastery, admire the colorful architectural ensemble of the monastery, visit its main temple - the Holy Dormition Cathedral, as well as nearby caves where the relics of the holy monastery rest. A visit to distant caves is possible after the approval of the application for their visit with the monastery.

Then we will go to Izborsk, the first mention of which dates back to 862. In Izborsk you will visit Truvorovy Gorodishche - the place of the original settlement associated with the name of the legendary Truvor, take a walk to the Slovenian keys flowing into Gorodishchenskoye Lake, on which swans live, bravely swimming close to people. Of course, you will visit the fortress itself, built in the 14th century, where you can walk along one of the walls, climb the Lukovka Tower, which overlooks the valley and Gorodishchenskoye Lake, go down to the powder cellar under the tower and look into the secret hole to the water. Then admire the beautiful example of early Pskov architecture - Nikolsky Cathedral, built in the first half of the 14th century, and visit this cozy temple.

You will learn about the history of Izborsk as a military fortress and an important center of international trade, which in 1491 became the place of negotiations and signing of a treaty regulating trade relations between Russia and the Hanseatic League.
