Description:
The Michael-Arkhangelsk Cathedral is one of the components of the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery, which was consecrated in 1827 in the name of Archangel Michael. Initially, it was thought to dedicate it to the Mother of God, and then to Hagia Sophia, but then they changed their decision, as there were a number of valid reasons.
The first reason is that there is already a church of St. Sophia in Kiev, and the Pechersk Monastery of the Kiev Lavra is similar to it in many ways. The second factor was the fact that on the Nikolaev Tower, next to which the place for the construction of a new church was chosen, the local image of Sophia of the Wisdom of God was placed. The third reason is that Grand Duke Gabriel of Pskov built a temple in the name of Sophia of the Wisdom of God in Novgorod. The last factor was that the abbots of the monastery it was desirable that the new temple was built with this name.
Thus, it was decided to "Dedicate the newly built Church named after Archangel Michael", in memory of the victories of Russian soldiers.
