Overlay chapel in the Pskov-Pechora Monastery

Pechora, Pskov, Russia

Description:

According to legend, on the territory of the Pskov-Pechora Monastery there are two life-giving springs where you can drink Holy water - this is the Korniliev spring, which in ancient times had an important strategic importance for the protection of the monastery, and the Life-bearing one, over which a magnificent overlay hexagonal chapel was built.

It was built in 1910 at the expense of the charity of the monastery of Princess Irina Rossinskaya. The building is located in the most picturesque place of the monastery and immediately stands out among the main buildings due to its burgundy exterior decoration. The best artists of Pskov took part in the painting of the walls of the chapel - special attention was paid to the dome of the building, which is decorated with decorative multicolored stucco. On the sides of the chapel there are images with the faces of saints.

In the silence of the overlay chapel, people find peace, harmony of soul and body. On special days, tourists are given the opportunity to get inside the building. The rest of the time you can relax on one of the benches near the Life-Breathing Spring in the shade of tall old pines.
