Petrovsky Gate Tower

mira street, Pechora, Pechora district, Pskov region, Russia

Description:

Petrovsky Gate Tower is a unique structure located above the Holy Gate in the Pskov-Pechersk Assumption Monastery. It is a unique three-tiered structure consisting of a support, loggia and an uplifting dome topped with a cross. A neat concrete alley leads to the tower, on both sides of which well-groomed shrubs grow. In 1913, a copper clock was installed on the Petrovsky Tower, and in 1923 it was reconstructed. Inside the tower was originally a utility room, where the church inventory was stored. Soon it was converted into a defensive structure, which was part of the fortification gate of the monastery.

Currently, the Petrovsky Gate Tower looks very elegant - its dome is painted blue, the arched openings of the loggia have orange shades, and the base on both sides is covered with iron sheets of green color. In the center of the Petrovsky Gate Tower there is an icon that protects the monastery from evil spirits. Every year hundreds of tourists come to these holy places to spiritually purify themselves and enjoy unique architectural monuments.
