Tailov Tower
Description:
Tailovsky Tower is a unique structure located at the junction of the southern and eastern part of the fortress walls of the Pskov-Pechersk Holy Assumption Monastery. Its name comes from a small town Tailovo, located near Pechora. It is one of the most powerful towers of the structure, its walls are 2.5 meters thick and go up to a height of 17.5 meters. In the Tailovsky tower there are five tiers and a complex system of thirty-seven loopholes, the lower of them are slit-shaped, and the upper ones are wide enough and arranged so as to expand the firing zone.
The upper tier of the tower is jagged and hidden under the roof itself, it was made at a later time. Tailovsky Tower was built on a hill in the southern part of the fortress and occupied one of the main positions in defense. It allowed soldiers to control the position on all sections of the fortress wall, as well as on the approaches to the neighboring lower towers. The fortress wall from the famous Tailovsky tower descends along a steep slope into the bottom of a deep ravine. From these places, magnificent landscapes open, which annually attract thousands of tourists who want to enjoy the historical monument firsthand.
