Polyudov stone (or Mount Polyud, Mount Polyudov stone) is a mountain in the Krasnovishersky district of the Perm Territory. Mount Polyud is located 9 km from the city of Krasnovishersk.
The height of Mount Polyud is 527 meters above sea level. The mountain is a part of the hills.
The mountain has an elongated character, the top is conical. The slopes of the summit are quite steep, especially from the north. The mountain is covered mainly with coniferous forest.
On the slopes of the "Polyud" originate tributaries of the rivers Black and Petrunikha.
From the Polyudov stone, the Vetlan Stone, the Commemorated Stone, is very clearly visible.
According to one of the legends, “Polyud” is the name of a powerful hero who once lived on the Visher land.
The story of the stone is this:
There are many legends and legends about the Polyudsky Stone. Perhaps the most famous narrates that on top of the mountain there was an outpost protecting the city of Cherdyn from sudden attacks of the enemy. According to one of the options, at the head of the outpost was the hero Polyud. Warning of danger, he made a large fire on top of the stone. During the time when the enemy rafted on Visher, and then climbed up the Kolva, in Cherdyn everything was ready for defense from enemies.
Sometimes they say that in ancient times, when the country, located in the interfluve of Kama and Vishera, bore the name of Perm the Great, the giant Polyud lived on the Polyud stone, and on the contrary, behind Visher, on the Mount Memorandum Stone, the giant Pel lived. Giants-gatyrs carried out patrol service on the borders of Perm the Great, which passed just on these mountains. They were the first to encounter raids by enemy tribes that came at that time along the Visher from beyond the Urals. And then one day from the Siberian side on Visher came a countless horde. The heroes fight with her day, fight another, third. Huge stones dream of enemies from the mountain peaks, each the size of a good hut. These stones still lie on the banks of Vishera. But the enemy's strength does not diminish. Then Polyud became angry, stomped on the mountain with his foot. And today you can still see the footprint of the heroic foot on top of the stone, which is seven quarters long. The earth shook from the impact, the forest fell, Vishera raged, out of the banks came ... The enemy army rushed hard. But it wasn't! Who was crushed by trees, who drowned in a raging river. If anyone left, he ordered his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to go to the Perm land in war. After that, Polyud, since he had nothing else to do, went “uphill”, to the cave that was in his mountain, and fell asleep there heroic sleep. He still sleeps, according to legend.
An interesting observation was made by historians. It turns out that in 1258, among the inhabitants of Novgorod, Polyud was mentioned, which differed from the others in strength and skill. At the same time, it was suggested that the hero People of folk legends from Vishera may have something to do with the chronicle Polyud from Novgorod.
“There was in the Novgorod Polyud-gatyr, a power of unimaginable. Polyud's wife was a beauty girl. Only once did Polyud return from the campaign, and his wife did not meet him, she left in the damp earth. He sat on the horse again and went where his eyes looked. He traveled for a long time, he kept the straight path, he turned all to the north and came to the mountain lands. He chose the mountain that Vishera had, took all his residence uphill. He said, “If I had a ring in the sky, I would have drawn the clear sky to my mountain.” And only Polyud so uttered, as he became stone at once and his horse also became granite.
