Excursion to the Wetlan Stone.

The highest and most beautiful rock on the famous for its amazing beauty of the Ural river Visher is the stone Vetlan.
Vetlan is almost a sheer system of high rocky cliffs. The Wetlan stone stretches along the river for 1,750 meters. The height of the rocks reaches 100 meters. The rocks do not begin at the very edge of the water of the Vishery River, but a little further away, at an altitude of 40-50 meters from the edge of the river. From the top of the stone Vetlan offers an insanely beautiful view of the river Visheru and the surrounding area. Seen from the top and another handsome stone Polyud on the other side of the river.
In the middle of the Visher riverbed at the Vetlan stone is a whole chain of man-made islets - the remains of the robes. They are wooden logs with a sharp end to meet the current, filled with pebbles and standing on sandy islets in the middle of the river. They were created in the most difficult conditions repressed in the 1920-1930s. These islets served to divide the river into two channels to control the mole alloy. Trees for mole alloy for the needs of the Krasnovishersky Paper Mill were also harvested by the prisoners of Visherlag. One of them was the writer Varlam Shalamov.
The Vetlan stone and the zapani in the Visher channel became one of the most striking objects in the documentary film by Alexei Ivanov and Leonid Parfenov “The Ridge of Russia” on the other bank of the river opposite Vetlan – the uninhabited village of Petrunikha is ruined.
1 kilometer from Vetlan there is a stone Small Vetlan, which you can also visit if you wish. Small Vetlan, of course, is much smaller than Vetlan, but interesting for its caves and a large number of fossils found here. At the top of the stone there is a rare and beautiful plant - a peony evading (another, more well-known name - marian root). This flower is listed in the Red Book and needs protection.
A trip to Vetlan is the most popular weekend route in the Perm Territory. It is beautiful here at any time – both in winter and in summer. Vetlan can be visited while rafting on the river Vischer.
