Kudymkar, preserving folk traditions
Description:
In the north-west of the Perm region, where the Kuva and Yinva rivers merge, stands the city of Kudymkar – the center of historical, cultural heritage and traditions of the Komi-Permian people.
According to legend, Kudymkar was founded by the leader of the Chuk tribe Kudym-Osh, the main hero of the Komi-Permyak epic, the son of a witch and a bear.
Initially, the city was located on the "Red Hill" - a hill from which today Kudymkar can be seen as in the palm of your hand. Kudymkar settlement (or settlement Izyur) occupied an impressive territory - about 8000 square meters. During the archaeological excavations held here, the remains of an ancient settlement were found - traces of hearths, remains of log masonry of huts, palisades, labor and household items and other artifacts.
Kudymkar has a large number of historical and architectural attractions.
One of the main sculptures is a monument to the national hero – Kudym-Osh. At his feet stands a bear, and on his shoulder sits an owl – a symbol of the wisdom of the hero. Another interesting detail of the sculpture is that the composition is built in such a way that the hero descends from the pages of the book.
No less interesting is the monument to the national Komi-Permyak letter, which looks like the letter “O” with two dots on top, and next to the letter sits a character of local legends – Leshak, he is a leshak.
