Perm

The Echo of the Cold War

Description:

During the Cold War, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) developed contingency plans in the event of a nuclear war with Russia. These plans included several nuclear strikes on the territory of the Perm Territory.

The main target was the Zvezdny settlement, a base of Russian intercontinental nuclear missiles thought to contain nuclear bombs targeting Europe's largest cities.

The area has recently opened to tourism with a museum displaying its headquarters in an underground bunker. One of the first foreigners to visit the closed headquarters of the 52nd Missile Division was former United States President Barack Obama, then a senator.

This is one of the few places in Russia where you can see everything with your own eyes, including the red button. A single shock could turn Paris or London into a radioactive desert.

The museum is located 35 km from the city, which is approximately 40-45 minutes by car from the city center of Perm.
