Monument "Armored boat AK-454"

ooh Towing, near the Kama plant, Perm, Perm Krai 614023, Russian Federation

Description:

In 1974, on the initiative of the director of the shipyard I.P. Timofeev, a new monument appeared on the map of Perm. Its length was 20 meters, and its width was 4. The monument is an AK-454 armored boat mounted on a three-meter pedestal lined with gray marble. It is no coincidence that the bow of the boat is directed towards the west, because this combat boat under the number 181 took part in the battles on the Volga, Dnieper, Danube and even the Amur. It is symbolic that the opening of the monument took place on May 9, Victory Day.

The installation of the AK-454 armoured boat next to the Kama shipyard was also a tribute to the incredible labor exploits of the workers and employees of the enterprise during the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945. On one side of the pedestal are fixed 16 marble slabs with the names of 192 workers who died heroically during the war.

In November 1942, by order of the State Defense Committee, it was decided to transfer the civilian enterprise to the military regime. The shipyard, which produced river tugs before the war, began production of AK-454 series armored boats. They were developed according to the project No. 1125 of the general designer Y.Y. Benois. By 1948, the plant had produced 132 armored boats, referred to as "marine tanks" among paratroopers.
