Monument to H.F. Grahl
ooh Plekhanova, 36 building 2, Perm, Perm Krai, 614068, Russian Federation
Description:
Fyodor Khristoforovich Grail went down in the history of the Perm region as a great doctor and a famous philanthropist. He was appointed provincial doctor in Perm in 1797, and before that, from 1786, for several years worked in the city hospital and kept many patients at his own expense. After his appointment to a new position, F. H. Grahl provided medical care not only to citizens, but also to residents of neighboring counties, and also performed the duties of a military medical expert and forensic physician.
In addition to his main work, F. H. Grahl served educational institutions, a theological seminary and a hospital for masters and peasants of Prince Golitsyn, located in one of the villages. In addition, he regularly received patients at home and personally visited them without charging any fees. Only thanks to his efforts in 1829-1831, the Perm province was able to avoid the cholera epidemic that raged throughout the empire.
For many years, the mark of memory of the outstanding philanthropist doctor was a high cast-iron column installed at the Bishops’ Cemetery. However, after the advent of Soviet power, the cemetery was destroyed, and a zoo was built in its place - this happened in 1931. And in 2005, on the initiative of the Charitable Foundation named after Dr. Grahl, fundraising began for the implementation of the project to restore the monument to the famous doctor. Soon next to the building of the city clinical hospital, which received the name of F. H. Grahl in 2003, the grand opening of the monument took place. The monument is cast in bronze and made in classical style with the addition of some elements of modernity. The height of the sculpture is 4.5 meters, the statue rises on a cast-iron pedestal, and the square around the monument is paved with tiles.
