Sculpture "Permyak - salty ears"

prosp. Komsomolsky, 27, Perm, Perm Krai, 614,000, Russian Federation

Description:

The sculptural composition "Permyak - salty ears" is located on the central street of the city of Perm, near the hotel "Ural". The opening of the monument, created by sculptor Rustam Ismagilov, took place on April 1, 2006, and the first viewer to be photographed with him was the mayor of the city. In 2009, Perm sculpture was recognized as “the strangest” Russian monument.

The monument is a composition consisting of a granite column, a little more than a meter high, on which an oval frame with ears is fixed. Opposite is the figure of a photographer with a camera, which captures everything that happens. Anyone can for a moment become a "pearl - salty ears" - just go to the frame and look through it into the lens.

Creating such a sculpture is not just a joke of the author, it is a tribute to history. After all, traditionally the epithet "Permian salty ears" was called the inhabitants of the Perm lands. Legend connects the origin of this nickname with the salt fishing, which was widespread in the region. Workers carrying bags of salt on their shoulders got this name - from constant contact with salt, their ears were soaked in salt, swelled and reddened.
