Description:
The Slutsk Church is the so-called Holy Trinity Cathedral, which is located on Mount Slutka in the center of Perm. This is one of the many interesting architectural monuments that are worth seeing while visiting this city.
According to the data available in the archives, the idea of building a new three-chambered church with two chapels on Sludka came from members of the Perm city society. This happened in August 1842. Most of the construction costs were assumed by the merchant of the 2nd Guild Yegor Ivanovich Shavkunov, the rest was collected in the form of donations from citizens and the diocese. Unfortunately, E.I.Shavkunov did not live to see the completion of construction, so the work started had to be completed by his son Peter. In 1849 the chapel was consecrated in the name of the Great Martyr George, in 1850 the southern chapel in the name of the Prophet Elijah, and in October 1857 the main throne in the name of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity was consecrated. The entire southwestern part of Perm entered the borders of the parish of the Sludsk Church.
During the Civil War, the Sludsk Church was stripped of all its buildings, all money and church utensils were confiscated, and the deacon and priests were subjected to repression. The building of the church housed the weapons depots of the People’s Commissariat of Defense, and the bell tower and four drums in the main volume of the temple were blown up.
In comparison with many other churches, the further history of Holy Trinity Cathedral is more prosperous. It was returned to the Church in 1944, the clergy and parishioners took an active part in raising funds for the needs of the Red Army and to help orphans. Large-scale restoration and restoration work was carried out in 2004.
