Waterfall "Plakun" in Suksun district

Suksunsky, Perm Krai, Russia

Description:

Plakun Waterfall is a unique hydrological monument of nature of regional importance, located in the Suksunsky district of the Perm Territory. It is formed from a stream, which is the result of the release of groundwater through cracks in the sandstone. The width of this stream ranges from 0.6 to 1 meter. It is divided into two parts and forms sleeves falling from a height of almost 7 meters. In the local groundwater contains carbon dioxide, which is released from the water and forms lime tuffs. When hitting the surface, water loses carbon dioxide, and calcium carbonates form lime tuff. The water temperature of Plakun Falls is 5.2 ° C. In winter, it is covered with an ice shell and is an impressive sight.

This shell dresses the waterfall with a solid blanket, and only at the edge of the cliff, in the uppermost part, you can see how the stream of water flows down, hiding under the ice. Then it flows through the gutters created by it in the ice mass. At the bottom, they expand and merge into a beautiful arched grotto, whose height reaches 1.5 m. It shows ice stalagmites, stalactites and pillars, which create the illusion of an ice fabulous palace.
