Ascension-Feodosievsk Church

ooh Borchaninova, 11, Perm, Perm Krai, 614068, Russian Federation

Description:

The Ascension-Theodosius Church is one of the last pre-revolutionary churches in Perm. The name "Theodosevskaya" in relation to this church has become common nowadays, but the original name of the church was different - the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, or simply the Ascension. The history of this temple is full of events, because throughout its existence it became the subject of disputes between different communities.

The decision to build a new temple was made in 1903. The plot for construction was donated to the diocese by merchant A.P. Babalov. A year later, the construction was completed, and in the lower floor the throne was consecrated in the name of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Between 1904 and 1918, the parish of the Ascension Church was one of the largest and richest in Perm. Then, due to the split in the Russian Orthodox Church, the community split into two groups. One of them called themselves "Grigorievtsy", the second - "Sergievtsy".

With the division of the community began disputes over the right to use the temple. In 1927, the city executive committee received an appeal from the community of "Grigorievtsy", and the temple was in their hands. In 1928, the church was transferred to another community. Almost every year, the communities competed with each other, trying to “beg” the temple from the city authorities, but in 1930 it was decided to seize the building from the faithful and organize a hostel in it. Subsequently, the building was rebuilt as a bakery.

In the 1970s, after the bakery moved to a new place, the restoration of the church building began, which lasted for several years. In 1991, the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church.
