About the company:
The museum was opened in 1916 at the Department of Regional Geology on the basis of the collections of Professor B.K. Polenov.
The exposition of the museum consists of three sections:
- Paleontology (systematic collection) – paleozoology, paleobotany; historical geology – Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic.
- Litho-paleoecological collection: facies of continental, transitional, marine sediments, indicators of depth and surface of layering.
- General geology (training collection). The exhibition is unique. Contains layer-by-layer collections from stratotypes of Phanerozoic units, holotypes and topotypes of fossilium, original author's collections and archives. There are unique samples: Devonian shellfish from the Baltics, dinosaur egg from the chalk deposits of Mongolia, skulls of labyrinthodonts from the Volga region, Mesozoic fish from Kazakhstan, skeletonless Vendese fauna from the Arkhangelsk region, etc.
