Perm

Vischersky Reserve

Description:

The territory of the reserve is located in the very north of the Perm Territory in the upper reaches of the Vishery River. Its area is approximately equal to the largest dwarf state in Europe, Luxembourg.

The reserved region stretches for more than thirty kilometers from west to east and almost a hundred kilometers from south to north. This is 241 thousand hectares, or 2.41 thousand square kilometers.

In the reserve there are no residential settlements, cellular communication and roadways. To the nearest settlement of the Perm Territory (Vels settlement) from the southern border of the protected zone (71 quarter), 36 km along the river and more than 30 km along the only and last dirt road in these places remains.

The relief of a specially protected area of the Visher upper reaches is mountainous. Wide, overgrown with taiga forests river valleys are constantly alternated with stone ridges up to 1469 m high. All mountain ranges of the reserve belong to low and middle mountains. The taiga forests of the protected Vishera for the most part are not disturbed by logging and fires. They are old-growth and very valuable, like the reference forest areas of the Western Urals, "who did not know fire and axe." About a quarter of the reserve is occupied by treeless areas of mountain tundra, stone rashes, floodplain and mountain meadows, woodlands and swamps. These are very diverse and picturesque lands.
