Kizhi Island by car and boat

I organize for you an individual trip to Karelia on the island of Kizhi, which will fill you with a festive mood.

On the way from Petrozavodsk in an interesting and fascinating form with visual materials I will tell about the history of Karelia: from ancient volcanoes to the present day, reveal the secrets and highlights of our republic, answer any questions. You will learn about ancient volcanoes, glaciers and Sami, the first inhabitants of our lands.

We will move along the federal highway “Kola”. On the way we will stop in the city of Medvezhyegorsk (160 km from Petrozavodsk) - the extreme northern point of Lake Onega, where the famous White Sea-Baltic Canal begins. I will tell you about the history of the city and here we will see the location of the filming of the film “Love and Pigeons”, and I will photograph you on the site of all known locations. Lunch and/or dinner are also available on the way back.

Next, we will make a transfer to the village of Oyatevshchyna (125 km, 2 hours), the road is completely new, not a single pit was not noticed, we will drive like on the German highway. Our way will lie along the Povenets Bay of Lake Onega, and on the way we will stop near the shungite deposit, a geological monument of nature of regional importance, look inside the galleries, and I will tell about the useful properties of shungite and the history of its origin.

Thus, we will arrive on the mainland as close as possible to the island of Kizhi and in the village of Oyatevshchyna we will transfer to a comfortable boat, which will take us to the protected island in 5 minutes. A few minutes along the strait along the historic villages of Kizhi Island and we will find ourselves at the pier of the museum-reserve. A small strait allows you to visit the island even in case of unfavorable weather conditions and the cancellation of direct navigation from Petrozavodsk in the summer. You're not gonna get sick!

On the island of Kizhi you can visit the architectural complex, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2020, a large-scale restoration of the wooden Transfiguration Cathedral was completed, which in its complexity has no analogues in the world. Now the winter and summer churches, as well as the bell tower of the churchyard, again greet guests with their recognizable silhouette. Walking and excursion will take about 1.5-2 hours, after it you will have free time to buy souvenirs, and if you want you can taste Karelian dishes and wickets in the cafe on the pier.

On the way back, I will tell you about Veps, Karels and Finns, as well as about the modern features of Karelia. We will listen to Karelian music, watch Karelian films and guess Karelian mysteries.

Also, if you wish, you can go back to Petrozavodsk by meteor from Kizhi Island, the road will take 1 hour and 20 minutes. If you wish, you can also spend the night in Zaonezhye in a Karelian house in 1 day, and go to the island on the second day.
