Ples - from the fortress to the resort
Description:
Golden Ples, the pearl of the Volga, the emerald of the North, Russian Switzerland - variously called this small town on the steep bank of the Volga. Ples was founded in the first half of the XII century as a fortress city, later, in the XV century, Ples became one of the fortresses of Moscow Rus, later - a commercial and industrial city, and finally - a resort on the Volga, today - a museum-reserve. Ples gained special popularity at the end of the XIX century thanks to the paintings of the famous Russian artist - landscape painter Isaac Ilyich Levitan.
I invite you to take an unforgettable walk through my hometown, the places where Levitan once wandered with a sketchbook, admire the wonderful views of the Volga from the Cathedral Mountain, walk through the ancient streets of Zarechye, see the Plesian embankment with its merchant mansions of the XIX century. You have comfortable shoes and a good mood.
