In Ples: for inspiration, to Levitan.

The city of Ples, located about an hour from Kostroma, is sometimes called Volga Switzerland: its picturesque hilly landscapes, which opens a magnificent panorama of the Volga, the patriarchal and leisurely way of local life for almost a century and a half attract eminent summer residents. The discoverer of these places was the outstanding Russian landscape painter Isaac Levitan, who captured the Plesian beauty in his paintings. Other celebrities followed him: F. Chaliapin, A. Savrasov, B. Prophetov, as well as, among other things, Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, who also has a dacha in the vicinity of Ples J In addition to the splendor of nature, Ples attracts tourists with its almost completely preserved ancient architecture, as well as interesting museums that have appeared here over the past decades.

During the tour of Ples we will climb the Cathedral Mountain, see the Assumption Cathedral of the 17th century. - the oldest temple of the city; admire the breathtaking landscapes opening from the steep bank of the Volga, where the Plesian Kremlin was once located; see the monument to the founder of the city, Prince Vasily Dmitrievich and the building of Presence Places, which currently houses the exhibition hall of the local museum-reserve. Then we will walk along the Plesian promenade :) - the Volga embankment with a length of about two kilometers, which on the one hand ends with a sculpture of the Plesian dacha, which has a very real prototype, and on the other - a monument to the cat Mucha, waiting for her master from fishing ...

The tour can be supplemented by a visit to the most famous museum of Ples - the Levitan Museum (it is advisable to book an excursion in advance), as well as to the only landscape museum in Russia or other local museums. On the way to Ples you will also not be bored: I will tell you about the ancient and quite modern cities located along the highway, about the local nature and history, and if the road seems too long, we will make stops. For example, in the city of Volzhsk, where you can visit the company store of the jewelry factory Krasnaya Presnya with an excellent selection of silver products; or we will stop at the Milovka ski complex, next to which is the dacha of D.A. Medvedev :) and the landscapes there, by the way, are not worse than Plessky!
