Comment:

When visiting the monastery, women need to cover their heads and wear a skirt (available at the monastery).

On the way from Pskov to Pechora, I will tell you about the shrine of the Russian land - the Holy Dormition Pskov-Pechersk Monastery, how the first monks came to the "God-built cave", how the Monk Hegumen Cornelius strengthened the center of the Orthodox faith on the western border of Russia with a powerful fortress and why the troops of the Polish King Stefan Batory in 1581 were not able to take possession of it.

The monastery is not a museum or a tourist site, but a quiet secluded place hidden by the monastery fence from the bustle of the world, where monks offer a fervent prayer to the Lord God, and therefore I do not conduct an excursion on the territory of the monastery. We will enter the temples, submit notes, attach ourselves to the miraculous icons and relics of the Pechersk saints in the Near Caves.

After leaving the monastery, we will walk around the Pechersk fortress. You will learn about the heroic defense by the defenders of the monastery from the Livonians, Poles, Swedes in the XVI-XVIII centuries. You will be amazed by the art of Pavel Zabolotsky, who built a powerful monastery stronghold in a deep ravine for seven years, and you will feel how falling down and rising again, the monastery wall calls on every Christian not to lose heart: after a fall comes for a strong soul again rising upwards.

Izborsk - "Iron City"

Izborsk is one of the oldest Russian cities, first mentioned by Nestor the chronicler in the “Tale of Bygone Years” under 862, as a suburb of Pskov. The fortress city is located in a picturesque place, with numerous historical and natural landscape monuments. During its centuries-old history, Izborsk withstood 8 sieges, earning the nickname “iron city” from enemies.
