Description:

Near Rostov, in the village of Bogolyub, is the church of John the Theologian, which is considered one of the examples of Russian wooden architecture.

The church was built in 1687 near the crossing of the Ishnu River. It belonged to the Epiphany Abrahamic Monastery. With the emergence of this monastery is a legend, according to which the founder of the monastery, Abraham of Rostov, John the Theologian appeared and helped to cope with the pagans. On the site of this phenomenon, a monastery was built, and later a church. In the 19th century a bell tower was added to the church.

Until 1917, the church was active. In Soviet times, it was declared a monument of wooden architecture and now it is part of the architectural complex of the Rostov Kremlin. Divine services are held twice a year, and in the warm season the church is open to visitors.
