Rostov Veliky

Church of the Savior on Senyah

Description:

One of the main temples of the Rostov Kremlin is the Church of the Savior on the Seine. It was built in 1675 and consecrated by Metropolitan Iona. Several times since its founding, the church has almost completely burned out.

After the fires of 1730 and 1758, the wooden structure of the church was replaced by iron. The church was originally built as a house church of bishops. In 1788, the episcopal see was moved to Yaroslavl, and the Rostov Church began to come into desolation.

It was used for outbuildings and only at the end of the 19th century the authorities paid attention to the deplorable state of the monument and carried out restoration work.

The church was completely restored in 1954-1957, when the entire complex of the House of Bishops was restored after a devastating hurricane. In 1977-1997, the wall painting of the church was restored. Now the church is part of the architectural ensemble of the Rostov Kremlin.
