Trinity-Sergius Varnitsky Monastery

roslavl region, Rostov the Great, Varnitsa p. (p/o p. Ishnya).

Description:

The Trinity-Sergius Varnitsky Monastery is one of the memorable and significant places of Rostov the Great, founded in 1427, after the discovery of the relics of St. Radonezh. For a long time the monastery was poor, because of its remote location, pilgrims did not visit it. There were no priests who prayed for their word.

The first buildings of the monastery were wooden, later rebuilt from stone. At the end of the eighteenth century, work on decoration and improvement began.

In the nineteenth century, the monastery began to maintain a "Book for Notes on Occurring Historical Remembrances, to serve the continuation of Russian history." From the chronicle it became known about a number of important historical events: a strong storm that caused great damage to buildings in 1811, a terrible cholera in Rostov in 1871, the healing of a woman in 1909 during prayer at the icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh and many others.

At the monastery there is a hotel, daily excursions for visitors and pilgrims.

You can get to the monastery by train to the Yaroslavl railway station or by bus to the Shchelkovo bus station.
