Monument to the hero Eupaty Kolovrat
Intersection of Lenin and Pochtova streets, Ryazan, Ryazan region, Russia
Description:
In 2007, in Ryazan, a solemn opening of the monument to the Russian hero Evpatii Kolovrat took place, who is known for the fact that, having learned about the ruin of Ryazan by Batu, with a squad of 1,700 soldiers, he moved towards the enemy. Showing remarkable courage and bravery in battle, he died, forever remaining a hero in the people's memory. The monument was created by the Ryazan amateur sculptor Oleg Sedov. National funds were collected for the construction of the monument.
The equestrian monument rises on a pedestal of red granite. The color of the pedestal is a reminder of the Ryazan land, stained with the blood of Russian soldiers. Until 2014, the monument is planned to be supplemented with a fountain, flower beds and decorative stones, on which excerpts from the “Tale of Bygone Years” will be carved.
