Rybinsk

Rybinsk – Volga capital of Russia’s burlasticism

Description:

Rybinsk is the capital of the Burlaks since the beginning of the XIX century. And the whole of Rybinsk is like a monument to heavy inhuman labor, whether it is the thrust of barges filled with bread, hooking or the creation of the Rybinsk Reservoir by thousands of people of Volgolag.

Rybinsk is a beautiful city located in the northern part of the Yaroslavl region. The city is located on the picturesque banks of the Rybinsk reservoir and the Volga River. The population of the city has almost 200,000 people and is the second largest in the Yaroslavl region.

Rybinsk combines a rich history of merchants, hard work of burlaks, rapid development of industry. In addition, many famous people, one way or another, were associated with the city: Rostotsky, Raikin, Andropov, Shcherbakov, Solzhenitsyn, Mikhalkov and many others.

A lot of interesting and unexpected things can be learned about Rybinsk. For example, the city is one of the record holders for changing its name. In less than 50 years, 5 (!) times changed its name: Rybinsk – Shcherbakov – Rybinsk – Andropov – Rybinsk.

Rybinsk will pleasantly surprise you with its variety of architecture, monuments, museums, nature.

Rybinsk Reservoir keeps many secrets and stories under its waters, which still do not leave many people indifferent.
