Nikolsky chapel

Volga Embankment 6, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region, Russia

Description:

St. Nicholas Chapel is a chapel that was consecrated in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker, the heavenly patron of travelers and merchants. This architectural monument is located in the city of Rybinsk on the embankment of the Volga River.

The chapel was built by Eltekov from the Transfiguration Church in 1867, in memory of the miraculous salvation of Tsar Alexander II from death, which occurred on April 4, 1866. In 1927, the chapel passed to the authorities for various economic needs. Later, the chapel demolishes the dome and builds the second floor. Recently, there was a linear police station in the chapel.

In 2010, the restoration of the Nikolsky chapel began. On it, the main cross and twelve crosses on the cupolas that adorn the dome of the chapel were installed. All crosses were cast and covered with gold leaf according to the rules that were in force in the XIX century. Nikolsk chapel is included in excursion routes around the city of Rybinsk. The chapel was included in the list of objects that the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia visited during his visit.
