The Petrograd side is a special place from which the history of St. Petersburg began. It was from here, protected by the walls of the mighty Peter and Paul Fortress, that the young city spread out on the expanses of the Neva coast. Once it was here that the heart of the future Northern capital could be born, but fate decreed otherwise, and the center gradually moved to the opposite bank of the river.
For nearly two centuries, the island has been abandoned, as if waiting for its new calling. Only at the beginning of the twentieth century he came to life again, finding a special, bizarre life. Today it harmoniously combines beautiful houses of European style, unusual monuments and unique evidence of the rich history of the country and the city.
