Garden of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg
st. Petersburg, University Embankment, 17
Description:
The garden was laid out at the I.E. Repin Academy of Arts in 1768. Its layout, outlined by A.P. Bryullov, has been preserved to this day.
In 1847, a granite column was installed in the garden, which was previously a reserve during the construction of the Kazan Cathedral. The column was originally crowned with a ball, but then it was replaced by the symbol of the arts – the lyre.
On the north side of the garden there are three academic buildings: the building of drawing classes, which adorns a six-column portico, a foundry building and a professorial wing.
During the last decade, two new monuments were erected in the garden: the Russian sculptor P. K. Klodt and the Ossetian writer K. L. Khetagurov.
