Sergiyev Posad

In places of Sergius of Radonezh

Description:

Sergius of Radonezh is a significant figure not only for the history of the church, but also for the entire Russian state.
The first thing we will start with is the village of Radonezh. It was founded by the Slavs around the XI century at the intersection of the road and the river Page. It is here that the boyar Kirill, the father of the Russian Podvignnik, moves with his family from the Rostov land. Here passed the adolescence of Bartholomew.
Now on the place where the boyar house stood is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the middle of the XIX century. Near the temple there is a cross, previously standing on the grave of the blessed Matrona of Moscow. We will also see the preserved fortress ramparts of the XV century.
On the territory of the former detinets there is a monument depicting the meeting of Bartholomew and the elder under a century-old oak tree.
The city of Khotkovo, which is located near Radonezh, stretches around the Pokrovsky convent. The first mention of it dates back to 1308. Here rest the relics of Saints Cyril and Mary.
All the pilgrims who came to the Trinity first came to this monastery to venerate the relics of Sergius’ parents.
