Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, built in 1818, is also often called the Church of the Resurrection of the Word, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ or simply the Resurrection Church. This temple is located in the former Kalichi Sloboda, which is a historical part of the city. The decision to build the temple of Peter and Paul in Sergiev Posad was made almost two centuries ago. The old wooden church of Peter and Paul in these places existed since 1654, it was erected in memory of the dead Christians during the siege of the monastery in 1608-1610.

The brick church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul appeared by the end of 1810, and consecrated it only in 1820. Over the next 80 years, the temple was repeatedly rebuilt - a covered western papert was added, the facade of the building was covered with cement plaster.

With the advent of Soviet power, the church was closed by the end of the 1930s, about 20 years later even broke the bell tower.
