Sergiyev Posad

Overhead chapel

Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Sergiev Posad, Moscow region, Russia

Description:

The overlay chapel arose in the 17th century near the Assumption Cathedral. It owes its name to a spring that arose during the repair of a neighboring building. Built at the same time as the Refectory Chamber and the Royal Palaces, it is an example of the architecture of Peter’s time.

Richly decorated, with flowery coloring and lush forms, it is a connecting element between these two buildings. In the center of the chapel is a cross from which water flows. It can be put into a bottle if desired.

The chapel stands in the center of the city, on 130 Red Army Avenue.
