Sevastopol

Silver Mellas tour

Description:

Mellas, like the SBC as a whole, is located in the subtropical climatic zone, so the climate here is similar to the Mediterranean and is characterized by a long, hot and dry summer. Average daily temperatures in the hottest month - July are 22-24 ° C. In June, the water warms up enough to open the swimming season. The average water temperature in June is more than 20 ° C, in July - 23 ° C and August - 24 ° C. Swimming season, like velvet, lasts until the end of September - early October.
Simultaneously with the construction of the palace in Mellas, a park of more than 12 hectares was laid. The cliffs of yaila, at the foot of which the park is broken, are majestic and indescribably beautiful in their naturalness. On the slopes grows a dense forest of juniper and oak, among which there are islands of unique Sudak pine, growing exclusively on the southern coast of the Crimea.
Park sanatorium

Park sanatorium "Mellas" is considered one of the best in terms of planning in the Southern Crimea. More than 180 species of trees and shrubs grow here, among which there are real rarities, so the park of the sanatorium "Mellas" rightfully bears the title of a monument of landscape art.
Until the XVIII century on the site of Kastropol was the Greek settlement of Castropulo (fortress, fortification), which, in turn, got its name from the Byzantine fortification of the XI century. Traces of this fortification were found near the Iphigenia rock by an archaeological expedition.
The rock itself was named after the daughter of the Hellenic king Agamemnon. Iphigenia is in Greek mythology the daughter of Agamemnon. She was sacrificed by her father to the goddess Artemis to ensure the Greeks a safe sailing to Troy. However, the goddess replaced Iphigenia on the altar with laziness, and Iphigenia moved to Tauris, where she made her priestess. It is possible that in the vicinity of Kastropol (in the south of Tauris) there was a temple of the Virgin, where Iphigenia was a priestess.

About the Museum:

The house-museum of the writer Julian Semyonov is located in one of the most beautiful places of the southern coast of the Crimea - the village of Oliva (or Upper Mukhalatka), located at the foot of the famous mountain Ifigenia.

Here, behind several turns of the road going into the mountains, hid a small cozy two-storey house, "my Villa Stirlitz", as the writer jokingly called his Crimean abode. fold

Only being here you can appreciate the choice of the world-famous classic of Soviet literature. In addition to the eye-catching landscapes from the windows, the museum has something to see for real lovers of history and literature.

The actual museum exposition is located in several rooms of the first floor, where the efforts of the creator of the museum, the daughter of the writer, Olga Yulianovna Semenova (by the way, also a journalist and writer) preserve the atmosphere and spirit of this house, former during the life of the writer.

In this house were written such famous novels as "Ordined to survive", "TASS is authorized to declare", "Auction", "Expansion", "Burning", "Unwritten novels", "Mystery Kutuzovsky Prospect", "Versions", "Face to Face".

The walls of this house saw many interesting guests - from Alla Pugacheva and Soviet Prime Minister Andrei Andreyevich Gromyko to one of the most desirable guests, Baron Eduard Alexandrovich von Falz-Fein - philanthropist and a real European aristocrat. This, and much more, will be learned by visitors to the memorial museum, who are waiting in Olives and on weekdays and holidays.

We recommend combining a visit to the museum and a walk through the picturesque surroundings, where random tourists do not often get.

So in a half-hour walk along the mountain paths (however quite gentle) - the famous Satan-Merdven (or Devil's Stairs), the pass remembering both Roman legionaries and young Pushkin.

The house-museum of Yulian Semenov was opened in Oliva almost ten years ago, and every year this place is becoming more popular among residents and guests of the Crimea, becoming a place of attraction for both numerous tour groups and single visitors from various countries.
