Tour "Streets of Simeiz"

Description:

Simeiz is one of the most picturesque resort villages of the Crimean peninsula. This corner of Big Yalta is visited by thousands of tourists every year. It has a completely different atmosphere than in the resort Crimean cities and large settlements. Drowning in green Simeiz is protected from the winds by the main ridge of the Crimean mountains, and from the sea it is "guarded" by the Diva rock. This creates a special space in a small village - cozy and comfortable, which is ideal for a relaxing holiday.

In addition to stunning nature, there are other interesting objects in this “paradise”. There is a famous garden and park attraction of Yalta - Cypress Alley (also "Prospect", "Alley of Apollos", "Alley of four non-drinkers" or even "Alley of naked men" and "Hedgehog Avenue"). The cypress alley is located at an 80-meter height above sea level. It is located in a very beautiful place – next to the city park. The alley originates at the Villa "Xenia" - one of the main architectural monuments of the Crimean Peninsula. The huge mansion is a magnificent example of German Gothic. It was built in 1911 by order of the famous industrialist Maltsov, who founded the Simeiz estate in the late 19th century. In 1915, the owner of the mansion carried out the improvement of the road leading to his new house. He decided to plant a hundred pyramidal cypresses on both sides. In the middle of the road, flower beds were broken all along. Then Maltsev ordered from foreign masters copies of famous sculptures of the period of antiquity and installed them on the alley. So there was the famous Alley of Apollos, by the way, the history of the creation of which can be seen in old photos of Simeiz.

During the First World War and then the Civil War, ancient sculptures were destroyed. They were restored only in the 50s. 20 century, when in Great Yalta began a large-scale development of resort infrastructure. Today there are four statues in the alley. They stand on low bases in the center, at the beginning and end of the Cypress Alley. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by the graceful “Artemis” – the goddess of hunting in ancient Greek mythology. Her body is covered with a short exomide. In one hand, Artemis holds a hunting bow. Now it is the only avenue in the district, which is a pedestrian boulevard and traffic on it is strictly prohibited.

In the center of the landscape complex there is a statue of Apollo - the leader of the muses and patron of the arts. Opposite it is a statue of a beautiful young athlete, deprived of hands. Most art critics believe that Adonis is the son of Aphrodite and Dionysus. At the end of the alley rises the mighty “Hercules”. In one hand the son of Zeus and Hera holds the cage, in the other the skin of the Nemean lion he killed. The Greeks, who once settled the Crimea, especially venerated Hercules, the patron saint of ancient Tauris.

Walking along the Alley of Apollos and at the villas “Xenia” and “Dream”, you can go further to admire other attractions of Simeiz: along the picturesque road in the direction of Mount “Cat”, the observatory and along the coast of the Blue Bay. The road will lead to another Crimean village, which is called “Katsiveli”, where in the future we will visit the museum of Amet Khan Sultan.
