Shuldan Monastery
Description:
Shuldan Monastery is a monastery in a cave, located near the village of Ternovka near the city of Sevastopol. The monastery consists of two tiers. Inside there are two cave temples and twenty rooms designed for the organization of everyday life and religious rites.
The Shuldan Monastery was built in the VIII century. Icon worshippers fled Byzantium and lived here until the XV-XVI centuries. They grew grapes and made wine. In man-made grottoes to the present time survived drawings XII-XIII centuries. At the end of the XV century, the Crimea was captured by the Turks, and most likely the monastery ceased to be used for its intended purpose. Perhaps the locals used it for economic purposes. Gradually, the monastery was destroyed and came to desolation.
Today, monks are living in the monastery again. The monastery has a center that helps drug addicts. You can get to the sights by bus from the Bakhchisarai station, the next to Zalesny or Ternovka.
