Monument to Catherine II

ooh Lenina, Sevastopol, Russia

Description:

It was Catherine the Great who annexed the Crimean peninsula to Russia. The main value of the peninsula is the port city of Sevastopol. In 1966, a proposal was made to install a monument to the Grand Empress, but the administration of Sevastopol was against it. And only in 2007 Sevastopol sculptor Stanislav Chizh created a clay copy of the future bronze monument. To the 225th anniversary of the foundation of the city - June 13-15, 2008, the grand opening of the monument took place.

The whole sculpture is cheerful almost one ton, and the height of the monument is slightly less than three meters. The sculpture of Catherine stands in a dress, the right hand is lowered, and in the left hand the Empress holds a scroll.

The monument is located in Catherine Park, near the Museum of the Black Sea Fleet. If you need to get to the monument from the Simferopol bus station, then take the minibus No. 114, drive to the stop "Cinema House", then it is easy to navigate the maps of the city.
