Sapun-gora
Russia, Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, Sapun Mountain.
Description:
The name of the hill is associated with the Crimean Tatar word “sabun”, which translates as soap. Previously, white clay was mined here for its manufacture. There is also a legend about horses that “in soap” climbed to a height.
Now Sapun Mountain is known as one of the places of defense of Sevastopol. There is a memorial complex dedicated to the liberation of the hero city on May 7, 1944. Under the open sky are exhibits of the Second World War:
- Exposition of Soviet artillery equipment;
- exposition of naval equipment;
- tanks, combat vehicles and air defense;
- captured German equipment.
The huge territory of the historical place includes: a diorama museum, a park of glory, an obelisk to the heroes-liberators, a chapel temple and memorial walls.
A visit to the complex will bring pleasure because the mountain overlooks the Balaklava valley.
To get to the diorama from different places of Sevastopol, you can take buses No. 117, 20, 25, 26, 105, 120, 107 to Sapun Mountain.
