Museum of the History of the Resort City of Sochi

Russia, Krasnodar Territory, Sochi, Vorovskogo Street 54

About the company:

The museum of the history of the resort city of Sochi is located in the Krasnodar Territory. The museum dates back to 1920, when the Museum of Local Lore was founded on the basis of the collections of the former Caucasian Mountain Club. The museum was founded by Vasily Konstantinovich Konstantinov, a local public and political figure, engineer and scientist.

The neoclassical museum building was built in 1936. At first, the school was located here, but later this building was transferred to the museum. The building is a typical example of urban planning of those years, which so little has been preserved in the city to this day. Together with the nearby railway station building, it allows you to imagine the image of the city, which was formed in the 1930s and which is forever lost for subsequent generations.

The main themes of the museum’s expositions are the nature of the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea, local archaeological finds, the history of the region and the city. The museum conducts major scientific and educational work, there are regular classes and thematic lectures with schoolchildren and students of educational institutions of the city.
