Alexander Monastery (Suzdal)

M7, Suzdal, Vladimir region, Russian Federation 536 m Yu

Description:

Alexander Monastery is one of the smallest temples of the city of Suzdal. At the moment, he has only 5 novices. Most tourists appear here on their own initiative, as the temple is rarely included in the routes of expeditions.

The history of the monastery was not simple. It was founded in the 13th century as a convent, but no structure has survived since it was burned by the Poles in the 17th century. At the end of the millennium, the main Ascension Church was built, which in 1764 was abolished by order of Catherine II, as a result of which the church became a parish church. The revival of the monastery took place only in 2006, but already as a monastery.

The appearance of the temple is partially preserved from the 17-18 centuries. Recently, only cells and outbuildings in the form of wooden houses with a common fence were built. The wall is decorated with small towers in the form of defensive structures.

A distinctive feature is the bell tower standing on the side, which is decorated only with casings and carved arches, which is quite modest for such buildings of Suzdal.

The monastery is located on the left side of the Kamenka River, on Gasteva Street. It can be approached from the side of the Rizopolozhensky monastery or the park of the 950th anniversary of Suzdal.
