The Annunciation Gate Church
Russia, Suzdal, St. Pokrovskaya, 76.
Description:
The Annunciation Gate Church is considered one of the earliest buildings in the area of the Pokrovsky monastery. The date of creation is approximately 1515.
The Annunciation Gate Church characterizes the image of the architecture of ancient Russia in the classical style. In parallel, it combines the components of the fortress tower and the church.
The church features a central part, altar and galleries, as well as rooms that are intended for a separate throne. In the northeastern part there is a place - "chapel" with the throne, created in honor of Michael the Archangel. But over time, all the side rooms were demolished, and prayer rooms were built in their place.
Some data indicate that Grand Duchess Sofia prayed in the Annunciation Gate Church. Princess Evdokia Lopukhina also offered prayers here.
At the top of the facade, the church has keel-shaped kokoshniks. You can see cornices and windows of different sizes, which are also decorated with keel-shaped casings. Above the roadway are kyots for icons.
Getting to the Annunciation Gate Church is easy if you use a taxi or car. From the main bus station distance is only 4 kilometers.
