Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God
Suzdal, Vladimir Region, Russia
Description:
The Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in Suzdal was built in the XVII century on the site of the St. Andrew Monastery, which was destroyed by the Polish-Lithuanian conquerors.
The church is located on Schmidt Street, on a small hill, or more precisely on the right bank of the Kamenka River. At the moment, the church no longer holds services and is closed to visitors. It acts only as an architectural and historical construction of the city of Suzdal.
Previously, this church had a tent bell tower, as well as an aspid, which is located in the altar part. But at the beginning of the XX century they were lost, and then the full-fledged work of this church ceased.
The Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God along the upper perimeter is decorated with kokoshniks and a cornice on which a patterned stonework is located. There is also a place for the main icons, which is located between two windows. The Tikhvin Church combines various decorative ideas and methods that can be found in the interiors of ancient buildings of the city of Suzdal.
If you get to this structure from the Suzdal bus station, you can use a car or walk. The distance is only 3.3 km, so it will not be difficult.
