Ilina
Russia, Vladimir region, Suzdal, str. Ivanova mountain
Description:
Low Ivanov mountain in the city of Suzdal on the Ilyin meadow is the location of the white stone Ilyinskaya church. Many centuries before Prince Vladimir baptized Russia, pagans conducted their rituals here.
In the XVIII century, the first church was built on this site, blown up by the Bolsheviks in the second half of the 30s of the last century. Only a stone box with a dilapidated drum has survived from the original temple. In 2010, the restoration of the church and its bell tower was completed.
As the basis of the modern temple is a quadrangular box with an octagonal drum. The spherical dome of the church is crowned with a small bulbous headboard. The temple is decorated in the traditions of wooden architecture, which are combined with the Baroque style. The shape of the windows on the first floor resembles a crown. The angular patterns are an imitation of a log log log log.
You can get to Ilyinskaya Church by Lenin Street. You should move towards the Museum of wooden architecture, then along the coast of the Kamenka river to the hill, on which the temple stands.
