Kozmodemian church

Russia, Suzdal, St. Red slide

Description:

Kozmodemyanskaya church in the city of Suzdal was built in 1725 on the high bank of the Kamenka River. The hill on which the building is located, since the 17th century is called Yarunova Mountain. But the history of this hill begins from the distant 12th century, when Bishop John founded the monastery of Kozma and Damian here. But by the 17th century, the monastery had already disappeared and a wooden church stood on the mountain in honor of the same saints, which was replaced by a stone one in 1725.

This church has an architectural asymmetry that was so popular at the time. Its bell tower is located in the north-western corner of the building in the shape of a cube, topped with one cupola. On the other hand, a small one-headed chapel is attached. Before the revolution around the temple was built a small fence of stone with stairs, which could go down to the river.

The location of the building is not chosen by chance, it can be seen from afar, but the best view from Lenin Street. But since the temple lies away from most tourist routes, it rarely gathers a large number of people, which on the other hand is good - believers here are waiting for a calm atmosphere and the absence of crowds of tourists.

The church can be approached from the side of the street Yarunova mountain, which is located near the Acute earthen rampart.
