Monument to Dmitry Pozharsky
Description:
If you ever find yourself in Suzdal, be sure to visit the square located at 127 Lenin Street. Here, near the observation deck of the Kamenka River, at the entrance to the Spaso-Eufimiev Monastery, there is a monument to Dmitry Pozharsky. In 1612, this prince led the people's militia, which defeated the troops of the Polish-Lithuanian invaders.
The monument was inaugurated in October 1955. The place for the installation of the monument was not chosen by chance: on the territory of this monastery there is a tomb with the ashes of Dmitry Mikhailovich.
The bronze bust is installed on a pedestal made of granite, which looks like part of the Kremlin wall. The monument bears the words “Dmitry Pozharsky grateful Motherland”, and under the bust there is an emblem in the form of a sword and shield.
The authors of the monument were the famous Soviet architect Grigory Zakharov and the Belarusian sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR Zair Azgur.
