Bogolyubskaya and Kozma and Damian Church
Description:
On the banks of the Kamenka River, far from the bustle of the central streets, there are paired churches of the Cross and Kozmodemyanskaya. They were built in Suzdal in the late XVII - early XVIII centuries. The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross is warm, it was heated and services were held in winter, in the cold. The Kozmodemian church was not heated, in it parishioners gathered for prayer in the summer.
The Holy Cross Church was built a little earlier, in 1696. The main building is two cages, the higher of which ends with a wide drum and an elegant headboard. This church has a tent bell tower, on the dome of which two rows of auditory holes create a kind of through pattern.
The Kozmodemian church is one-domed. It was built later, as a result, the ensemble differs in style. The second temple in this pair is a classic example of Russian Baroque. The base is a squat four, on which a high eight is put. The temple is crowned with a head on a patterned drum decorated with kokoshniks.
The ensemble of the Holy Cross and Kozmodemyansk Churches is located away from the main tourist routes of Suzdal at a distance from the city center. The temple is not renovated and services are not conducted there. Both churches are clearly visible from the district road around Suzdal. The direction of the movement is from Vladimir and Ivanovo to Moscow.
