Passage tower of the Savior-Eufimievsky monastery

Vladimir region, Suzdal, Lenin Street.

Description:

The Suzdal Spaso-Eufimiev Monastery was founded in the middle of the XIV century. Originally built as a fortress, many years later it became a holy monastery.

In its original wooden appearance, the monastery was preserved only until the XVII century, when it was almost completely destroyed by the Polish-Lithuanian invaders. The modern monastery complex includes restored buildings. The entire territory of the Savior-Euphimius Monastery is surrounded by a strong stone wall with watchtowers, which once again tells us about the historical defensive purpose.

The most significant and outstanding on the general background is the Entrance or Passage Tower. Strict and elegant at the same time, 22 meters high - it fascinates with its grandeur.

The upper part is richly decorated with cornices, belts and casings, at the bottom there are kyots for icons. The roofing part is made in the form of a tent. Instead of a cross, it is crowned by an onion headboard with a weather vane. The tower has two arches that currently house a bookstore and a ticket office.

In front of the tower is a small square decorated with a sculpture of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky. There is a monastery complex at the address: Suzdal, Lenin Street, 148.
