Suzdal

Friday Church

Suzdal, st. Kremlin

Description:

Friday Church or, as it is also called, the Church of Paraskeva Friday is located in the center of Suzdal, between the Shopping Rows and the defensive structures of the Kremlin.

The stone temple was built in 1772 on the site where the old wooden church named after Nicholas the Wonderworker was located. Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday is revered by Orthodox Christians for refusing to worship pagan idols. By order of Emperor Diocletian, she was executed like Christ without betraying her faith. The saint is the patroness of mothers and all domestic work. The architecture of the church is an example of the Suzdal Posad “warm temple”, where services were held only in winter. The temple consists of two small cages, from the east to it adjoins a wide altar apse. On top there is an octopus with a high dome, crowned with a minted figurehead in the shape of a vase. There are no services in the Friday church.

You can get to this attraction from the bus stop "Trading Square". Then walk around the Trading Rows and be on the banks of the Kamenka River.
