The Transfiguration Cathedral
Description:
In the 16th century, after a fire in which the Church of the Transfiguration burned down, the Transfiguration Cathedral was erected on this site. The temple was made in the style of white-stone architecture of Suzdal and preserved the traditions of buildings of the 12th century. But soon it was modified several times and equipped with several extensions. So, now a gallery flaunts around the walls, and from the northern part there is a chapel of Sergius of Radonezh. The porch is now part of the southern porch.
This cathedral is the main temple of the Savior-Euphimius monastery. In the 17th century, the cathedral was decorated with external painting. The arcature column belt and embossed stone images were popular at the time. Inside, the temple was decorated with paintings depicting scenes of lighting the territory of the temple and key characters - Prince Boris Konstantinovich, St. Ethymius and Bishop John of Suzdal against the background of the panorama of Suzdal. The frescoes also depict kings from the Romanov dynasty and master masons at work.
The Transfiguration Cathedral is included in the main tourist routes and is one of the most visited temples. It is worth mentioning that it is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as "White Stone Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal". There is a temple at the street Spasskaya house 10.
