It is surrounded by stone churches, which makes this place the most touristic in the city. All tourist routes pass through the shopping area. Here you can find a huge number of souvenirs, handmade crafts in the style of the city and much more that will not leave indifferent any traveler. On the square to this day arrange holidays and other events.
Despite its long existence (and the trading area was formed in the 12th century), it gained its modern appearance only at the beginning of the 19th century. Due to the devastating fire that destroyed most of the wooden buildings, it was necessary to rebuild and replace most of the buildings with stone.
An example of the design of shopping rows was a similar structure in St. Petersburg. The architect was A.N. Vershinsky. Before entering the square, parishioners meet two churches - Resurrection and Kazan, which externally differ from the rest in solemnity and asceticism. At the head of the square are slender galleries of the Gostiny Dvor, which at one time received merchants from all the surrounding lands.
